In the last few months of preparing to open my salon and build a clientele base, theres one thing I've heard over and over again.
"Oh, my dog has short hair, it doesn't need groomed."
Well, I'm here to tell you why this is wrong, and I'm glad that so far, I've had plenty of short haired clients to use as examples on my socials.
Certainly, short haired dogs don't need as much grooming. They don't have hair that gets matted and tangled, or falls into their eyes. However, they still have dander, some have undercoat and they still shed all year round. Some examples of short haired dogs that I've been told don't need groomed include:
Greyhound
Jack Russel
French Bulldogs
Labradors
Grooming, including home grooming, helps to remove dead hair and dander and distribute healthy oils, keeping the skin healthy. This helps the dog regulate his body temperature and reduces itching.
At the groomers, they can take it one step further with their equipment such as high velocity blasters and professional deshedding tools. Groomers can also safely clip nails, brush their teeth, clean their ears and use high quality conditioning treatments.
Another advantage of regular grooming trips, is that the groomer can spot things you missed, such as lumps and bumps. I've heard more than one story of a dog's life being saved by a groomer noticing something the owner missed!
Drop me a message if you would like to book your short haired dog in for a spa day!
